A visit to UM's Geology Department

Last Friday, on 12th of August, we had a trip to the Geology department of University Malaya (UM).
Later on in the evening, we had Iftar at Gombak.
I edited these pictures at 5am so pleaseeee scroll down slowly.
Kamsahamnida~

Need no introduction, the UTP bus

Arrival at UM's Geology department

Was welcomed by lecturers and a few students. UM students are on break.
Only some stayed doing their researches.

Had a briefing by a lecturer. Was given the overview of the courses offered in UM.

This lecturer is quite funny, his class must be fun. lol

The mini museum in UM geology department

We were divided into 2 groups for the tour around the labs.

Rocks sample collected. Kalah (loose) UTP wooo~

Had a demo by UM technician in the Thin section preparation lab

Just for display~

Again, for display only~

I guess this is the signature dish.
The best tomyam so far. Even my Afircan friend loves it.

This is some chicken dish. very very very super duper spicy, to me.
Can't really taste it out, my tongue got numb once I took it.

Fruits I got nothing to say. You know, fruits~

On the way back to UTP, it was raining and the bus was so cold.
We all snoozed off~

P/s: There will be more posts like this in the future! I promised some adventures earlier on.
Well I had lots but I just don't have the camera to take down every moment.
Now I have one so stay tuned for an almost-good-blogger who can now update more frequently!

Not alone, you've reached this far

Yes, it's mostly words but if you plan to kill yourself, read on. It is not going to kill you, but maybe stop you.

I am not sure whether I am too carefree lately or I just think life happens this way. I was in a lot of trouble lately, endless trouble. I had to go to and fro the security office, don't ask me why. I had problems with one of my course, mentioned in one of my previous post. I almost lost my belongings, all the cash and cards. Had a big quarrel with my brother. And the list goes on...

I was super stressed up, I really cannot figure out what else to do. There was no one really there to help me, to me these are my problems and I need to solve them myself. Most of the time I tell one or two friends, but keep the rest of the story to myself. The only one I really talk to is Jesus.

Perhaps I should open out more. I guess my brother and I are facing so many problems right now, that was why we quarreled, cause we were unable to get hold onto ourselves. There are times when I thought that there must be the reasons to suicidal cases, and was I facing something near?

Then I had these thoughts, I may be at my worst. But there can be someone out there facing worst. I may be failing this one subject, but how about those final year students who almost graduated but was sent to tests by God? What happen if just before your graduation, you had to quit Uni? I may be insulted mentally, if not worst how about those physically and mentally?

Maybe through these problems, it is still back to how you handle yourselves. I have no doubt in telling that though how much I pray for God's help, I still tear myself to bed. I scream for help, or just a little comfort. There might be nothing in return, but I cannot expect anything more for God is equal. I am not alone.

When I get too worried, it reminds me of people who suffers more than me. There are people out there living in fear and sufferings. Those who fear that anytime death will come taking them. Fear loosing the beloved ones. So for now, no matter how bad life treats you, perhaps the only way, is to be thankful, be grateful.

At least you survived this far :)

And I apologize for the rough vocab and grammar. It's 4.30am now as I type this line. I need to wake up at 7am. Nites

Appreciation

There are still nice people out there,
who are really helpful and will hold your hands no matter who or where they are.

To Jesus, thanks for listening to my prayers.
Being there all the time through my hardship.

Guiding me through every tests I am facing.

To my parents, thanks for the endless love.
For being by my side through my ups and downs.
And calming me with your voices and laughter.

To the bf, thank you for bringing me back on track.
Reminding me of religion and God.
And rushing to my side when I am in trouble.

To my friends, thank you for being helpful.
And understanding my problems.
Even when I was annoying and troublesome.

To Jay from WWOOF Korea, thanks for your kindness.
Though a stranger thousand miles away.
You helped me through my request.

Like a flower

She was like a flower that had been battered by a storm,
but not quite destroyed.
Gradually, she began to strengthen and bloom again.

Reality

" If you can't solve it, it isn't a problem--its reality. And sometimes reality is the hardest thing to understand and the thing that takes the longest to realize. But once it hits you in the face you'll never forget it. It will always be there in your memories and sometimes that is the best way to look at it. "

Hands on LX-5, XZ-1 & G12

Yesterday I managed to get my hands-on on

Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5

Olympus XZ-1 and

Canon Powershot G12.

Before I got my hands on these high end point and shoot cameras,
I Google-d some of their info and know some of their specs.
It seemed that I am not the only one confused.

Many are questioning which of these cameras should they pick.
Another camera of almost the same function would be the Canon S95.
However it was not in my list because for S95, you don't have hot-shoe.

When I got hold onto LX5, it was great.
The body is metallic and the grip was nice.
The XZ-1 was also partly metallic,
but it looks more plastic-like and the camera is not fixed with a grib.
You would need to buy and fix your own grip (flipbac camera grips).
G12 was obviously a lot more bulkier and the above two.
Not only it was heavier but also much thicker.

For the image quality,
LX5 satisfied me whereas when I first viewed XZ-1,
I thought that the screen was a little blueish.
G12 has the clearest image due to highly number of bits.

LX5 is using the well known Leica lens,
XZ-1 using the Zuiko lens, whereas G12 is forever the most famous
no matter what lens because of the brand Canon.
I always thought Olympus is under rated,
they got really great cameras especially the PEN series.

I tried onto macro shots.
LX5 and XZ-1 both worked really well.
I was quite impressed.
However when I tried G12, it was quite difficult to focus.
The camera focus on larger image,
usually the background rather than the actual object.
It took the macros at large angles.

For the video,
XZ-1 was poor compared to LX5 and G12.
Noise was really bad. LX5 and G12 was fairly so so.
But for me, I will not be using the video mode much so why bother.
Camera is for pictures, video cam is for videos. :)
Like you can't expect your mobile phone to be the best camera.

For the price (perhaps this is what you are waiting for?),
as of yesterday LX5 was at RM1350,
XZ-1 was at RM1499 and G12 was at RM1599.

For other features such as ISO, aperture, zoom,
you can go find out yourselves.
http://snapsort.com is among my favourites.
Maybe because I am not a pro,
and I do prefer explanation in layman's terms. :)

I came to the conclusion of buying LX5. why?
1. Indeed it is cheaper (cheapest if not)
2. Less bulky than G12, else I'd rather get a DSLR
3. Image quality comparable to other two.
4. The bokeh is niceeee
5. Wide angle, best for scenery since I am using it for travel
5. Just the right feeling when I hold onto it! :P

I initially narrowed my choices to LX5 and XZ-1,
but why I choose the former?
XZ-1 can only be charged using USB.
Which is really a downside because I don't always bring my laptop
or other gadgets besides my mobile phone when traveling.

I was persuaded to buy the G12 by the shop owner
due to the image quality.
But looking at G12 I seriously thought,
for that size and that price....
I would just invest a few more hundreds to get a DSLR.
Besides, I was looking for a camera solely for traveling purpose.

Before I go back to the shop to order an LX5,
do you have any opinions or suggestions for me? :)

Making lemonade

There are times when I am about to break down

That I need no words but just a hug

Times when I sit alone thinking

What would He do in situations like these

Then I will start tearing

And I told myself

He was strong

I should be too

So I hold up my tears

When no one was around to lend a helping hand

I stand up and tell myself

That now on wards

I can only rely on myself

My problems do seem endless

But I believe there are people out there facing worst

I may be afraid of walking alone

But many do not even have the choice

When life gives you lemon

You make the best lemonade out of it :)

True Harmony Kuching branch review

I have this sharing to make, or maybe a warning.

I went True Harmony, Kuching branch for trial facial last Saturday.

My appointment was 11.30am.

I arrived exactly at 11.30am, and I was asked to wait.

I wait for almost half an hour.

Waiting part still ok, they ask you to set at the sofa and read some magazines.

After that they call you in a room for some consultant.

They tell you which facial more suitable.

I think maybe I got cheated into a cheaper facial.

I paid for RM280 facial and got RM180 facial because apparently,

she said my skin too young for the RM280 facial.

If she was not cheating and knows more than me, then I am cool.

After that I went in the small room, get changed into the sarong.

She started doing the facial, telling me every steps.

At the same time, telling me my skin very dry.

Which I couldn't agree more.

The part I dislike the most is extraction.

Because my blackheads too big, too many...

but that was a necessary step to remove them.

Good thing she was considerate on my sensitive nose,

instead of using the tools, she just used cotton pads.

But there is this one part of my forehead with huge blackhead.

She pressed so hard, 3 times I think.

I was already tearing up that time.

After 3 days, that part is still swollen.

And I am guessing infection coming.

After the facial, which took 1.5hours rather than 1 hour as mentioned,

excluding the half an hour waiting time.....

she brought me into the room and start selling her products.

I kept rejecting since I am still using another product.

But she still ask me to try.

At last I just say I did not bring money cause I came just for trial.

And guess what she said???

"I talk so much to you and you end up not buying from me."

Now what is that going to do with me?

I am the customer, I got the choice to buy or not.

She kept promoting until I got so annoyed.

She took me another 12-20 minutes just to promote her products.

So from 11.30am, I finished at 2pm.

I was supposed to finish at 12.30noon according to the allocated time.

The products are really nice, from Germany.

I may try doing it in Ipoh branch and buy the products here.

But the Kuching branch is a big No No...

It's all about it

When I watched all those Korean drama,

I thought it was all fake.

How could someone possibly sacrifice everything for love.

I used to think those are all acting and scripted.

Until I knew that life is so tough

that at times all you need is just that someone.

That someone who will

do anything, be anywhere, be anyone for you.

Then I realized...

Love,

does make the world go around.

Off to bed~

Nites all :)

If today is my last day

People had been talking about the end of the world, some said that it will be this year *gasp* but I guess majority would think that it will be next year, especially after the movie 2012 was premiered. When mentioning that next year will be the end of the world, what do you have in mind? Fear? Regrets? Confusion? Angry? Irritated? Joy wtf? As for me I do feel a lil bit of confusion. Confused whether to believe that it is true or not. If you Google up the proofs that 2012 is going to happen, you will know why. There had been a lot of discussions and arguments on this topic so it is really confusing. What if I believe? What can I do? And if I don't believe, will I regret that I didn't believe? wtf

But if today is my last day, I will probably have no regrets. It is true that there are so many things on my wishlist, so many things that I still want to do. There are so many things that I want to do for my loved ones. But I have always believe that God has plans for each and everyone of us. That if I die today, He had it planned and I will not go against His will. Being loved and loving others is perhaps what I am proud to achieved and make me living without regrets if the world ends tomorrow. If you think you have yet to find love, then seek for it before it is too late. It's all around you, you just need to explore.

I have neutral thoughts about the end of the world. I do wake up and thank God that I am still alive. But I never put my hopes too high. I had been living this life with the thoughts and worries that I may not wake up alive the next day. And the bf said that I am being silly and is worrying my ass off wtf. He said I am too stressed out about this whole thing. Well, because I am well prepared to accept death doesn't mean I am over stressed. This may sound freaky but I had been living prepared to accept any bad news about me or my loved ones.

I usually have these aims and I am satisfied as long as I work hard for it even if I don't achieve it. I complain but I will soon accept fate. As for someone studying Geology, indeed the continents may crash one day getting back as one before the current arrangement, but that will take another millions or billions of year. And if Earth is a star that will fade one day, it will also take billions of years.

Towards the myth or fact that the world is going to end, some people are freaking out. Wanting to die beside the loved ones, wanting to know when is the actual day, wanting to do everything before dying, want to die painless and peacefully and etcetera. But I just have this thought in mind, if it's going to end, it's going to end. No matter where you are and with whom so please don't put your aim so high, else you won't die peacefully wtf. My Mum always had the same thoughts too, that if God planned for your death, you just go anywhere, anytime. And Daddy finds it freaky. We don't take death for granted, but what else can we do? Or perhaps you can stop death?

My past life

So I read a friend's blog about this and here is mine:

Your past life diagnosis:
I don't know how you feel about it, but you were female in your last earthly incarnation. You were born somewhere in the territory of modern USA South-Center around the year 650. Your profession was that of a warrior, hunter, fisherman or executor of sacrifices.
Your brief psychological profile in your past life:
You always liked to travel and to investigate. You could have been a detective or a spy.
The lesson that your last past life brought to your present incarnation:
You should develop self-love and ability to implant hope into hearts of people. Ambition is not everything. True wealth is buried in your soul.
Do you remember now?

What are my thoughts after reading it:
Perhaps I was a woman, ok. But I was a warrior?? Hunter?? What fisherman?? Is that why I hate fish so much in my present life? Cause honestly I don't eat fish much, maybe that's why I am dumb2 *not enough Omega wtf*.

I would still like being a spy. Can I still be a spy? Like Angelina Jolie? lol. Okay. self-love....self-love... But sorry I don't remember anything wtf. That was 2011-650=1361 years ago wtf.

You should try too, maybe you could remember yours. lmao. Click (here)

East Msian making passport in West Msia

These are probably not mentioned by the Immigration Department website or even stated at the Immigration office so to prevent more disappointment, I am sharing my experience here.

Last Wednesday, I went to make passports with the bf at Ipoh Immigration Office. Before going there, I checked out the maps, all the fees and documents required. So we drove all the way from our Uni, which took about 45minutes with speed around 90km/h shown on the GPS, minus traffic lights and all. So actually it took almost an hour wtf.

Once we arrived, we filled up the form and took our numbers. When it was our turn, we were told that those from Sabah and Sarawak are required to bring original birth certificate. How could we be bringing our birth certificate all the way here right? We only travel using our identification card (IC). So after that 1 hour drive and skipping lunch just to get there in time, it's all wasted.

They mentioned on the notice board that it will take 2 hours to complete the passports. But that is not the case if you are from Sabah or Sarawak, making passport in West Malaysia. They said since the law is different, they need to refer back to the Sabah and Sarawak Imigration office for approval. Thus will take 5 working days.

Feeling so disappointed, we went to McDonalds and ate our heart out, and cursing all the way wtf. So much for being called One Malaysia. This is so going to be in my Malaysian Studies assignment. We understand that the laws are actually beneficial to us, but at least state them in the website. In the Immigration website, it is only stated as Malaysian above 18 years old and etc. They didn't mention that Sabah and Sarawak will need extra documents, extra days and perhaps extra fees, no?

So Sabahan and Sarawakian out there who want to make your passport in West Malaysia (avoiding the hassle of going all the way back to your hometown), make sure your prepared the original and photostated copies for both IC and birth certificate. Save your time, money and energy going back and forth. I checked so many websites but nobody seemed to mention about case like this.

Result day

We had been waiting for our results since the first day we started our semester.

There were rumors here and there on the dates which the result will be announced.

At last there was an official announcement that it will be announce today at 2PM.

True enough like what a friend said, even if it is already 3PM, the result will not be out.

Usually we check out result through our Student Portal named Prism.

What is more disappointing, Prism was not only disable,

they made a hard copy announcement asking us to collect them at the office.

The office....is just a small room with a counter.

Imagine the queue...... @.@

So I figured I won't die if I check my results a few days after, or even next week.

People skip classes to go collect the result slips.

I am anxious cause I didn't do so well last semester,

but we'll see....in a few days time :)

Update 1:

-For matrix number below 12600, please go to the exams unit counter to get your result or you can send name and ID to the contact below,
-For matrix number between 12600 and 15826, the result will be sent to you by email, but if you did not get your result, you have to send email to the contact below or go to the exams unit counter.

p/s: They said will email by 2pm, but till now no email. Whatever la, tak dapat result last semester pun takpe. If fail any subject sure they will email ask us to repeat right. Pity those whose matix number is after 12600 and they queue up for hours before getting this update.

Update 2:

I got my result via email last night.
I see improvement and hope to score better this semester :)

First cash out!

The Churcp Churcp cum Nuffnang survey above should be giving you RM1 for sponsored post if you are the first 1000 to do the survey. But I guess I was too late~ Other bloggers and non bloggers out there, have you completed the survey? It is actually quite fun, unlike some lame academic surveys. *ooopsss remembering my Academic writing semester where I need to do surveys as well*

Okay back to main topic. I am proud to annouce that I can now cash out my first Nuffnang earning!! Well I can cash out at RM50 but I thought it was unecessary so I waited to hit my next target which is RM100. Now I need the money for my travelling expenses so I am going to cash it out!

Speaking about this, I have never thought of earning from blogging. It was just merely where I talk craps and share crappy stuffs. It is fun! I know the fun side of it is degrading, the frequency of posting is going down hill. But I assure you that there will be posts which you will look foward too. Still, thanks Nuffnang!

It may not be comparable with bloggers who earn more that the value above in 1 day. I earned this much after 4 years wtf. Though I joined Nuffnang kinda late. I didn't know about Nuffnang when I started blogging. However it is still surprising cause I didn't actually blogged day and night or strained my brain thinking what to post, how to post everyday. I just post whenever I want. And my followers had increased! Thanks to much for the supports! 감사합니다!

p/s: I am learning Korean language or Hangul. Whoever knows where to learn it in Ipoh, Perak plssssssssss let me know. This is kinda urgent!
